2020 RYDER CUP
Here we go again, with the 22nd edition of the Ryder Cup at Treetops.
Our Commissioner set the lineups, as well as the daily matchups, which goes Captainless for the third consecutive year.
Day 1: We kick off the opening round on Saturday, at Westwynd with a full shotgun at 1:30. The format for the first round starts out with Better Ball on the front nine and a two man scramble on the back. The front nine includes a birdie pool while the back nine includes a skins game. Golf Channel coverage of the feature match Schimke / Tignanelli vs Coyle / Zott can only be seen on PPV. A 10-10 draw in the feature match sets the tone for the round, with the USA squad pulling out a 101 - 95 lead . While there was 9 birdies on the front nine, only 1 skin on the back nine - snared by Matt Franz and Anthony Corrigan. Congratulations to Matt Franz as well for getting a boner on #8.
Day 2: Teams have arrived at Treetops for the balance of the tournament. Rounds today played on the Jones
(4 groups), Smith Signature (2 groups) , and on the Tradition (4 groups). Format is Better Ball on the Front Nine and Shamble (both balls count) on the Back Nine. Exclusive Golf Channel coverage of today's "Bum Buddies" feature match pits Bieszki / Robak vs Summers / Zott with Bieszki and Robak coming up with a decisive 12.5 - 7 victory. The American squad once again won the day by a 100.5 - 93 score, and after 2 rounds increased their overall lead to 201.5 - 188.
Day 3: On Monday, 36 holes of golf with the first round off at 8:00ish. Rounds are at Jones (2 groups) , Fazio (4 groups) and Tradition (4 groups). The morning round format is Chapman on the Front Nine and Better Ball on the back Nine. Today's Golf Channel feature group coverage Bieszki / Tignanelli vs Corrigan / Zott. Many golf enthusiants are bitterly disappointed that the annointed Championship Belt Holders, Joe Tignanelli and John Ciszewski were not paired and willing to put their title on the line. A 10-10 tie, so no bragging rights. But Team USA gets to keep on bragging with their third straight winning session to the tune of 108.5 - 85, winning 6 of the 10 matches.
In the afternoon session, foursomes on the Smith (4) Fazio (4) and Tradition (2) playing a four man team red / white / blue step aside scramble ,with cards matched after the round. The USA eeked out a 50-49 session win, to capture all four sessions. They will take a relatively slim 38 point lead in to the singles matches 360 - 322. With 20 matches to be played, no lead is safe.
Day 4: On Tuesday, the 20 singles matches were played on the Jones (4) , Smith (4) and the Fazio Premier (2). Team Euro put on their games faces, and salvaged a moral victory winning the day 195.5 - 190. Unfortunately it was not enough for a comeback, and Team USA wins the Ryder Cup 550 - 517.5. Eight members of Team USA won 4 matches, with Bieszki, and Ciszewski going undefeated . Mike Schrauben was the shining star for Team Euro with a 4 - 1 record. Thanks for coming.
