2018 RYDER CUP
How time flies.....this is the 20th Anniversary of the Ryder Cup. In honor of this, we have returned to the American vs European format while also setting the teams with the old guard vs the young guns.
Our Commissioner set the lineups, as well as the daily matchups, which goes Captainless for the first time. In addition, the daily team payout was eliminated and became a "winner take all" pool for the winning team.
Day 1: We kicked off the opening round on the Fazio (4 foursomes) and Tradition (5 foursomes). Leading off in the opening match were long time retired Captains Mike Flood and Seve Bieszki, who team up for the second time to faceoff against European rookie Dave Siwicki and veteran Joe Tignanelli. Four matches came to a 10-10 draw, three matches were lopsided and the remaining 2 matches were right down to the last hole. When all was said and done the Euros took the day,
and carried a 92 - 86.5 lead into Saturday.
Day 2: In the morning session, we began the day on the Smith Signature (5) and Jones Masterpiece (4) playing Better Ball on the front nine, and Chapman on the back nine. Only 1 real close match in the morning session, with lopsided wins for both sides, with the Europeans winning the session 93.5 - 82 to increase their lead and extend the overall score to 185.5 - 168.5
In the afternoon session, out to the Smith Signature (4) and Fazio (5) for the Step Aside scramble, where teammates get to play together and cards get matched when the round is completed. In addition, this round is played for team skins. The round began with a one off match of Modified Alternate Shot with M Schrauben and Vos eeking out a 10.5 - 9.5 win over Franz and Corrigan. The US team bounced back to win the round 52 - 47.5 with the Europeans holding on to a 233 - 220.5 lead at the end of the day.
Day 3: On Sunday, back to foursomes on the Smith Tradition (5) and Jones (4). While the 4 matches on the Jones ended with a tie of 39 points for each team, the Euros won 3 of the four matches on the Tradition to win the day 93.5 to 83 increasing their overall lead to 326.5 - 303.5.
Day 4: On Monday, the 18 singles matches provided an opportunity for both teams to grab a big share of the 360 available points. The Euros began the day with a 23 point lead as matches were held on the Fazio (5) and Smith Signature (4)courses. 3 Matches ended in draws, the American Team won 8 matches to the Europeans 7, but the Euros won the day 177.5 - 176 and captured the Ryder Cup 504 - 479.5.
